Case Study: The Sarasota Orchestra - Understanding Sound Dynamics in Different Spaces
The Sarasota Orchestra aimed to educate viewers on how venue acoustics impact sound quality. To achieve this, I developed a visually engaging storyboard that demonstrates how sound varies between different environments, using a unique mixed-media style inspired by Vox.
The goal was to highlight the impact of acoustics on auditory experiences in different venues, especially emphasizing the benefits of a performing arts space. The project aimed to make these complex sound dynamics accessible, serving as both an educational tool and a marketing asset for the orchestra.
Harter and collaborator Mitch Centers employed Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, Trapcode Particular, and X-Particles to bring dynamic sound concepts to life in 3D. The multimedia collage approach enriched the visual storytelling, effectively illustrating the differences in sound behavior.
The Sarasota Orchestra video successfully conveyed the importance of acoustics through creative animation, making complex sound science approachable. This project exemplifies how visual media can bridge technical topics and enhance audience understanding, aligning with the orchestra’s mission to deliver high-quality auditory experiences.
